The story begins in the pouring rain. Fresh out of prison and the ICU, his face shattered and his feet raw from walking, Sean has no phone, no money, and no one he can turn to. He is separated from his children, carrying the weight of what he has survived and trying to understand the threats, betrayals, and losses that have brought him here.
Then the past begins to surface… not in a straight line, but in fragments. A younger voice returns. Accents and selves answer one another. Memories unfold beside poems, drawings, freestyle, research, psychedelic experiences, and dialogue with a presence called Sibling. Together, they form a searching account of a life trying to distinguish what can be trusted from what fear has made impossible to ignore.
What can you forgive? What do you hold onto when it feels as if nothing remains? What can you release? And can you still choose love and trust?
Part memoir, part novel, part poetry and investigation, The Field Remembers draws the reader into those questions without settling them too soon. It ends at the Cross: crucified, exposed, suspended before the choice to stand. What the Cross means—and what standing will cost—belongs to the reader. That choice carries into Book Two.
The Voices, the companion app for this volume, offers another way into the story: through Sean’s younger voice, the accents he has carried, and the other voices that travel with him.
